The plane table, 1865-1869 / by A.M. Harrison, assistant, U.S. Coast Survey.

The bulk of the manuscript is a handwritten, illustrated treatise dated 1865 on the plane table and its use in surveying. At the end of the volume there are various printed excerpts bound in, including "A treatise on the plane table, and its use in topographical surveying ... abridged from the original mss., 1867", apparently a proof copy for a reprint of the article that was published as appendix no. 22 in the Report of the superintendent of the Coast Survey (1865, no. 30); an excerpt from the Providence journal ("The metrical system of France", by A.M. Harrison, dated Nov. 30, 1869); projection tables from the 1853 Coast Survey report; the article, "Telescopic measurement in surveying", by Benjamin Smith Lyman (12 p.); and handwritten tables of triangulation.
